Yet again we are seeing the effects of another ransomware attack named Petya, with Ukraine’s metro network crippled and banks and government departments hit. The virus is beginning to spread across Europe and has affected firms in the UK.  After WannaCry struck in May you’d have hoped the lesson to be learnt was to ensure all systems are up to date with the latest security updates so that vulnerabilities are patched.

There are several steps you can take to protect yourself from this attack:

1. Make sure your operating system is fully up to date
2. Ensure you have antivirus software actively running
3. Backup your files to an external location
4. Be vigilant with suspicious looking emails, especially from unknown senders with attachment
