Following on from our last blog, we’ve continued to think about how to make the most of the summer as a small business. It goes without saying that it’s a really important time of the year for resetting.
Here we are at the halfway point of 2025, the perfect time to look back at the first half of the year and plan for second half success.
We’ve included below some tasks and activities to do for your business this summer. If you missed the last blog, check it out here as it has even more ideas for you to get stuck into. Without further ado, lets dig in.
Tidy up your data lists
It’s been a little while now since GDPR came into force. This change in legislation was a focal point for a lot of businesses to review the data they hold. When was the last time that you considered this?
It’s understandable as it’s quite a time consuming process that takes a fair chunk of effort – it often gets pushed to the bottom of the pile. Given that more time is generally available in the summer, now might be the perfect time to carve out some of that and focus on getting on top of the data in your business.
Test tools and platforms
If you’ve been meaning to try out a new tool but just haven’t got around to it yet, the summer might be the perfect time to do it. If you find things a little quieter then it’s the perfect opportunity to find out about tools that might be useful and test them in a more low pressure setting.
A great way of doing this is to designate a small sub group to test on. This will ensure that firstly you are not overwhelmed by the size of the task at hand, but also will be better if something goes wrong as you’re only working to a sub group. The one thing to remember is to make your test group large enough that you are able to gather meaningful data from it.
Plan and streamline both in the short and medium term
We mentioned business planning in the last selection of tips here, but there is a little more specific planning that you can do to make the summer and beyond a success.
In the short term, think about what resources are available to you. Plenty of people go away in the summer and this will extend to your team too. Small businesses by their nature tend to be lean, so make sure that your vital tasks are covered for holidays.
In the medium term beyond just planning resourcing, how are you going to be growing in the second half of the year? Now is the perfect time to start thinking about campaigns to win new business or increase existing customer spend in the Autumn. Make sure to carve out some time for it.
Hopefully you have seen how the summer, far from being a quiet time, is actually a golden opportunity to double down on building your business. Don’t forget that you can do your own learning and development – so don’t forget to check out some of the previous
business reading lists we’ve pulled together.
