Soon no doubt we will be gearing up for the end of the year. But before that there is a bank Holiday and the last stretch of the summer to enjoy (small number of weeks thought that may be).
There are things you can do for your development and your business no matter whether you decide to rest or work. Below are our ideas on how to make the most of the last gasps of summer.
Let’s dive in.
Dip into some reading
This is the time to take advantage of slightly quieter times and dip into some reading. There are a vast array of business books on the market and realistically something that will suit everyone.
One that you may want to consider, especially if you’re interested in the role that AI has increasingly been playing over the last few years is Raising AI by De Kai (also recommended on JP Morgans 2025 summer reading list). It makes for interesting reading if you want to understand what a future of AI may look like and how best to engage with AI in a responsible way.
If those recommendation aren’t quite right for you, a couple of weeks back we compiled a summer reading list. All of these are well worth looking into if you haven’t dipped into them already. If you’ve read something different recently that is has inspired you, share it with us.
Get yourself and your team booked for some training
It probably hasn’t escaped your notice that August is comparatively quiet. With just a week or so left it’s probably worth checking out what training and development is available to your team.
Eventbrite is a good place to start looking as a well known event listing platform – and importantly it lists both in person and virtual training.
Areas you may wish to consider include cyber security, business planning, productivity or AI. There are plenty of last minute options available either paid or for free, so it’s worth taking a look.
Develop your Autumn marketing campaign
If you’re looking to close out the business year strong, it’s worth spending some time planning out any marketing campaigns you plan to run in the Autumn.
This need not be overly engineered, however, you will want to think about:
1 – What is the offer that you are promoting? Is it one particular service, is it a product or a package?
2 – Who are you going to offer it to? Existing or new customers, a particular segment of your customers, maybe you plan to target a particular type of business or people? Make sure you’re clear.
3 – How will you reach them? Are you going for face to face networking, digital ads, utilising the email list you already hold?
4 – How will you follow up and close the deal? Not enough people think about this, so you end up with loads of prospects and not much to show for it. Make sure you have a plan to track your prospects and ensure you can close the deal at the other side.
If all else fails remember that we are just on the cusp of the last bank holiday weekend before Christmas. There is a lot to be said for taking some of that time to rest and recuperate so that you’re ready to come into the Autumn fresh and finish out the year strong!
