Some of you might already be on your summer holiday by the time you read this. At the very least, it can’t be far away as we rocket towards the back end of July.
We have written quite a lot recently about making the most of summer as a naturally quieter period for some businesses. For some this will mean devoting time to planning or to improving systems and tools in your business.
It can also be a good time to rest and recuperate, and what better way to do that on holiday with a book? However, if you can’t quite turn off completely, we’ve complied a reading list of books that may give you food for thought.
Let’s dive in!
Looking to start a business or trial a new idea?
The
$100 Start Up by Chris Guillebeau has been around for a couple of years but is a top read if you’re looking to start a business or even trial a new idea or service as part of your existing one. It’s very accessible and easy to read an I peppered with plenty of engaging and inspiring case studies.
Looking to achieve your goals?
Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss is an interesting, if unusual, guide to approaching negotiations. This is based on negotiation techniques used by the FBI when dealing with hostage situations. Whilst that does aound high stakes, it offers practical strategies for achieving successful outcomes no matter what you’re negotiating.
Looking to embrace new opportunities and improve how you do things?
Think Again by Adam Grant is the book that you’re looking for. In this book, Grant recognises that the world is changing rapidly and the best way to embrace change is to unlearn some of the ways of doing things that we cling to and to embrace thinking again.
Looking to leverage the power of virtual teams?
Virtual Freedom by Chris Drucker is the book you’re looking for and is a great read if you are looking to build your business with a virtual team. It’s full of tips and strategies for hiring and managing virtual staff effectively – an absolute game changer in the digital age.
