Happy New Year. As is traditional this is the time of year that is used for planning and looking forward into the future.
Many of us will have, or will be planning to,set new years resolutions. This is absolutely something that you should be looking to do for your business.
Many resolutions are pretty tired and clichéd. For good reason, as these are often the things that we don’t focus on enough – however – there are ways that some common resolutions cab be brought up to date or made slightly different to keep you engaged and more likely to succeed.

Review last year’s resolutions

If you’re struggling for a place to start with setting resolutions for the year then taking some time to review the ones set last year is a good idea.
Look at what one you were able to keep and which ones fell by the wayside. Of last years resolutions are there any that need to be on your list for this year, either as they are or refined and updated? What were the difficult resolutions to keep last year, and are there things that could help to keep them on track better now?

Get an accountability buddy

When it comes to keeping your resolutions and goals on track, there is little better than having an accountability buddy.
It has been proven that stating your goals out loud can make you more likely to achieve them. Finding someone that you trust and that you can share goals with will be really helpful to make you take the action that is required.
This can work both ways too, so you can help them to keep accountable to their goals. Try it out this year and see what you can achieve.

Think if January is really right for you

There is a lot of buzz in January about setting goals as it is the start of the year. However, just because many people will be doing this, doesn’t mean it is necessarily right for you.
There are plenty of points in the year to set goals and resolutions. The start of your new financial year or even in September after coming back from holiday is are good options.
If resolutions are hard in January to keep,  don’t beat yourself up, there are 11 more months of the year you could try again in.
